Cable Making |
||
We had a lot of the equipment needed to make cables left over from the boating days. A large cable crimper was a major tool. These cost about $30 but the ability to make custom battery cables is well worth it. This one by Ancor Marine uses a large hammer to crimp the cable lug. 2/0 cables are enough to deal with without having extra length. You can have custom battery cables made if you don't want the tool investment.
Another useful tool that we had was a heat gun. A heat gun does a great job in shrinking the heat shrink tubing we use on terminal lugs. In previous days, we used to use the element barrel of the soldering iron to shrink the tubing but the contact with the element caused the tubing to get brown spots. The heat gun gives use clean well fitted covering of the lug joints.
You could solder or crimp the lugs for your cables. For more information on the choice click here. |
