New Wheels

9/15/2008

Woodland Park, CO

Diamond Campground

After experiencing the tread loss of a tire, we decided to go ahead with a tire capacity upgrade that we had planned for next year.

We had 16" G rated tires on Tige which had enough load capacity for Tige's weight but we wanted to have a margin for our own comfort.  The details of our selection process is found at Tire Size Change.

We wanted Goodyear tires and Goodyear agreed to give us a trade-in on the remaining trailer tires.  The normal process would have been to take Tige to the tire dealer and have them swap the tires, and in our case the wheels.  Since we did not want to move Tige (we were is a site that was a bit hard to get into), we worked it out with the tire dealer.  We dropped off the new larger wheel rims and they installed the new tires.  We then took Red Rover down to the dealer, loaded up the new wheels, and brought them back to Tige.

After installing the new wheels, we took the old wheels back to the tire dealer, who dismounted the tires for the trade- in and now we have a set of 16" rims to sell.

New Tires One of Red Rover's advantages is his flat load carrying bed.  The stake packets and rub rails provide great tiedown points.

New Tires If you look closely, you can see all the tires are off of the ground.  The BigFoot Leveling made the wheel swap a lot easier.

New Tires Good friend Jack Mayer, camp host, helped out in the supervisory position.

Actually Jack was a great help putting the old wheels on Red Rover for the trip back to Goodyear for the trade-in.
