Iowa, a state we had not yet visited, was next on our list. Being right next door to Wisconsin made it very convenient. For
this Mississippi River crossing we stayed as far away from Minneapolis as we could and crossed at Dubuque, IA. This is the approach to the Mississippi River. |

Welcome to Iowa. | ||
Our destination, Oelwein, IA. You say you have never heard of it?? As a friend asked me..."Why Oelwein?" Leaving
from West Bend, WI, we checked the map for our 200-250 mile destination options. We do not like to travel more than 250 miles.
Then we look for campgrounds in the area. This is the country road in front of the campground. Not a car as far as the eye can see! |

In Oelwein, we found Lakeshore RV Resort. We always have to make sure that the park will accommodate Red Rover, Tige and Sparky, and this one did. The bonus is that this park is part of the Coast to Coast membership RV Park system. As we are Coast to Coast members, our nightly camping fee is greatly reduced. There is not a whole lot to see in this area. But, having some down time was welcome, after two weeks of air travel and a work assignment in Maryland for Dale, and driving 60 miles round trip daily to visit friends and family in Milwaukee.
The office. Under cover are tables and chairs where folks staying here gather for coffee in the morning and happy hour at 4PM.

The sites are large. Unlike at our West Bend, Wisconsin site...Red Rover can stay with us...all plugged in! Even when the engine is turned off, this truck continues to draw power from the battery for a variety of systems...nothing like a car. And it keeps the refrigerator cold.
At West Bend, Red Rover was parked in the main parking lot for the campground, with no provision for power. As a result, Mark had to disconnect the battery in order to avoid drawing down its power and ending up with a dead battery.

Since we have stayed at two horse farms this year, we found it interesting to have a horse operation across the road from the campground.
These are quarter horses.

She had just opened a design studio. This is a big step for a Decorating Den owner as the business starts as a office in the home and a custom colored van that takes the various samples to the customers home.
