Our location - West Memphis, AR
Graceland |
Well, it would not be a visit to Memphis without a trip to Graceland, where it is all Elvis, all the time! Our friends, Jack
and Danielle Mayer, were visiting here at the same time. So, we went together. The mansion and grounds are located on a very busy
street, Elvis Presley Blvd. Chances are it was not so busy 35 years ago. It really is a lovely piece of property...set back
from the road, loads of trees, and a rolling landscape behind the house, complete with out buildings, stables and, horses. This, of
course, is a front view of the house. |

And the rear. The pool is off to the left. The interior of the house is frozen in time, decorated in the 70's. Lots of
velvet, fake fur, leather, dark wood and streamlined, modern furniture. |

Graceland is a museum as well as a house. All of his gold records, Grammy awards, Army memorabilia, movie artifacts and his
concert wardrobe are on display. In addition, Elvis' private airplanes, including the "Lisa Marie," are also open for
touring. |

And, the last stop on the tour is the "Meditation Garden", where the graves of Elvis, his parents, his grandmother and a
memorial to his twin brother, who died in childhood, are located. Flowers and tributes arrive daily at Graceland. They are all
displayed and are removed only when the live flowers have wilted and the plastic ones become weather worn. They day we visited was
bright and sunny and the "Meditation Garden" was quiet and respectful, despite the steady stream of human traffic. |
