After replacing the peninsula countertop with a bonded in sink, we
decided to replace the range unit we had. We never used the
range oven as we have a Convection oven. We also wanted a
hotter burner than what we had with a standard RV range. We
also analyzed that we never used three burners on the range. So the plan was to replace the range with a two burner cooktop with a hotter burner. The range had a 9000 BTU burner. We found a two burner cooktop with the main burner rated at 11,000 BTUs, We bought a GC2-48P from Ramblewood Green. We wanted to maintain the Corian cover over the cooktop like we had over the range. We returned to Midwest Custom RV, our favorite service place, to make some cabinetry and drawers to fill the space vacated by the old range. We had Jack Jesse at Jessco company to build a new counter top. He used a lot if the original top but there were a lot of changes. The new cooktop was taller than the range so the recess base had to be lowered. Also, we had the dual burner cooktop mounted sideways so we had a deeper space behind the new lid. Jack came through with another excellent top. |

This was the original range. The folding cover was almost all the way back to the backsplash.

The new countertop from Jack Jesse is installed. Note the deeper counter space behind the cooktop cover almost 10". |

Since we had the cooktop installed sideways, the cover was shorter
and therefore didn't need a hinge in the center. One less
seam in the countertop. |

The left burner is the higher output burner.
Not only are the two new drawers wider, they are a lot deeper than
we expected and they are on full-extension slides. It is going to take a little while to accumulate more stuff to fill the drawers. Maybe not. |
