We learned with Training Wheels, our first
motorhome, that having amplified speakers are necessary when using a
laptop. |
|||
We used these speakers. They use a USB cable for power. | |||
These are the USB powered speakers
attached to the USB sound adapter in the USB hub. They are Velcroed to the doghouse for the time being. |

Change to Android9/15/2016We could use the same speakers with the Android equipment because we used an On-the-Go (OTG) cable. The OTG cable plugs into the charging port of the Android device and allows regular USB devices to be attached. In this case the speakers worked with the Android device. |
|||
Change to Android 211/20/2016The problem with the OTG cable is that it did not supply power to the tablet. So we decided to couple the speakers to the tablet with a Bluetooth adapter. |
|||
We bought this
IBT-08 Bluetooth adapter
to plug the speakers into. First we tried the 3.5mm plug from the speakers into the Bluetooth adapter. It did not have very much volume. Probably limited for headphone usage. We found using the RCA jacks with an adapter cable gave us better volume to overcome the ambient noise when we are traveling. |
|||
Change to Android 34/14/2017The Bluetooth adapter with the existing speakers did not provide enough volume for announcing the GPS messages. |
|||
We bought this
OontZ Angle Bluetooth speaker to
replace the existing speakers.. This speaker had more than enough volume for our GPS usage. We rotated the Angle speaker so the grill holes are aimed toward us. |
|||
We found a problem with the Angle speaker and another brand we tried. The problem was that almost all Bluetooth speakers will shut down if there in no signal input. The number seems to be 8 minutes. This did not matter if the Bluetooth speaker was plugged into a USB power cable or not. The problem is that often there are periods of greater than 8 minutes when there is no speaker commends from the CoPilot software. One of the problem was the Angle Bluetooth speaker would just power down with no indication. And no indication if the Bluetooth connection was reestablished when powered up. |
|||
We tried this
Vomach Bluetooth speaker. It still turned off after 8
minutes but gave us a tone signal that it was shutting down
And it gave us a tonal signal that the Bluetooth connection was
reestablished when powered back up. But the CoPilot had to power up the speaker every 8 minutes or so. |
|||
Change to Android 48/10/2017 |
|||
We finally found this
Amazon Basics Portable speaker. This Bluetooth speaker does not power down when there is no input signal as long as it is powered by the USB cable. This fit our needs. |
