Copilot Truck V9

Last Changed 12/22/2010

CoPilot Truck Laptop V9 has some differences from the non-truck versions of CoPilot.

One of the differences is a Driver Mode display.

In Passenger Mode, the display is similar to Streets & Trips and Street Atlas in that the map stays displayed and the vehicle motions is indicated.  In Driver Mode, once the speed is over 5 Mph, CoPilot changes to a very large and clear display of arrows and directions that the driver can quickly scan.  This makes Co-Pilot easier for solo driving.

We currently have the 2009 version of Street Atlas USA.  Delorme has added a navigation mode more like CoPilot but not as good for solo driving.  Street Atlas still lacks a height database.

In the mean time, we wish Delorme or Microsoft would elevate the capabilities of their software but a height knowledgeable road database is not in the future of either of those products.

ALK has just released new versions of their software.  The current version of CoPilot Truck for laptops is Live 8 Truck.  CoPilot Live 8 has an RV mode where is routes around roads with clearances less than 12' 6" or 13'.  The 13' 6" function is the main reason we went with CoPilot Live 8 Truck Laptop.  ALK has also added Propane restrictions to the routings.

CoPilot has a program for registered users getting upgrades.  CoPilot Live 9 Laptop seemed to be a better fit for RV usage if your height is less than 13'.

CoPilot Live 9 Truck Laptop much more to deal with in the area of truck restrictions, many of which do not affect RVs.

One of the features in Live 8 Truck Laptop is that after you have laid out your route, you can test drive it, adjusting the speed of simulation.
