TV Ground Dishes

Last Changed 9/5/2017

In general, ground dishes are dishes that you receive from the satellite TV provider and are mounted onto some type of tripod or other mount.  Also, the more LNBFs (Low Noise Blocking Feedhorn) in the head, the larger the dish will physically be.

DishProPlus 1000.2 (DPP 1000.2)

Flag Buddy The DPP 1000.2 is the current Dish dish.  It has a one piece triple LNBF head which locks onto satellites 110º, 119º, and 129º.  This will give you the basic Dish channels and the HDTV channels for the Western Arc (WA).

There is also an Eastern Arc (EA) LNBF head for the DPP 1000.2 for satellites 72.7, 61.5 and some include satellite 77.

DishProPlus 1000.4 (DPP 1000.4)

Flag Buddy The DPP 1000.4 was initially released for use with the Dish Eastern Arc (EA) set of satellites 61.5º, 72.7º, and 77º.  It looks similar to a DPP 1000.2 with a different LNBF head and a larger reflector

Dish did release a WA LNBF head for the DPP 1000.4.

Some like the DPP1000.4 for the larger reflector. The DPP 1004. in no longer in production.

Older Dish dishes

Dish 300

Flag Buddy The Dish 300 comes from Dish and has a single LNBF that came aimed at only one satellite.  This dish is not used much anymore because Dish needs at least two satellites to provide the basic channels.

The 300 is no longer available.

DishPro 500 (DP 500)

Flag Buddy The DP 500 comes from Dish and has a dual LNBF head which locks onto satellites 110º and 119º.  These two satellites provide all the basic Dish channels.

DishPro 1000 (DP 1000)

Flag Buddy The DP 1000 comes from Dish had has a triple LNBF head which locks onto satellites 110º, 119º, and 129º.  This will give you the basic Dish channels and the HDTV channels.

DishSuper

Flag Buddy DishSuper.  The different satellites are needed for “local channels.”  Since “local channels” is a function of home installations, we will not cover them here.

DirecTV Dishes

Flag Buddy DirecTV dished are not some much referred to my model numbers like Dish, but just by the number of LNBFs the dish has, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.

The number of LNBFs indicates the number of satellites tat can be locked onto.  A dual LNBF will handle the basic channels on satellites 101º and 119º.  A triple LNBF will add HDTV to the basic channels using satellites 101º, 110º and 119º.  A fourth LNBF is generally for “local channels.”  DirecTV now has a dish with 5 LNBFs.

The latest DirecTV dish is three headed AU9-SL3 for 99º, 101º and 103º and includes all the HDTV channels.
